Summer Time - when the travelling is easy...

Right, so you've got a fortnight's leave...

Europe's a pretty big place these days, but with a fortnight in hand you can really see rather a lot of it. The first thing is to get yourself an InterRail Global 10-day Flexi-Pass. This effectively gives you 10 days (within any 22 day period) of rail travel, allowing you to whiz all over the place.

Why not pootle over to the other end of the continent - its Eastern extremity is Turkey, and you can see this vast and ever so-slightly-exotic and very nicely by train.

With a bit of forethought (which, let's face it, is but another name for some very pleasant idling on the internet), you can put together one of 'those journeys': something that remains seminal to your view of travelling for a very long time after. (View route map.)

A Eurostar to Brussels & you're off: Eurostar
Day 1: should see you heading for Cologne, where you can board an overnight train to Vienna Cologne
Day 2: Spend Day 2 looking around Vienna before catching another overnight train to Budapest Budapest
Day 3-5: These next few days are up to you. Options of stopping off in Hungary, Bucharest in Romania, Sofia in Bulgaria or all of them... Bucharest
Day 6: Arrive in Istanbul Istanbul
Day 7-9: Are all yours: rove around Istanbul, or catch a train to visit other parts of this vast country Istanbul
Day 10: You're off to Thessalonika, rest up or stroll around this ancient city Thessalonika
Day 11: On to Athens & spend Day 11 there in the heart of ancient Greece Athens
Day 12: Catch the train from Athens to Patras & boarding the overnight ferry for either Bari or Brindisi in Italy Patras
Day 13: Enjoy a bit of Italian fun, get a train to Bologna by nightfall so you can board the overnight Palatino to Paris Bologna
Day 14: Catch the Eurostar back to Blighty & to cap of the holiday in style why not go 1st class London

Wow! Book your InterRail Global 10-day Flexi-Pass now!
