GSR Rail Explorer Pass Conditions:

  • The Pass allows 6 months unlimited travel on the Great Southern Railway routes.
  • The Pass is only available to holders of foreign (non-Australian) passports and non-Australian residents.
  • Passports must be shown to railway staff prior to each sector travelled and on the train as requested.
  • Backpacker/Student ID/Membership Number required for concessionary fare (eg YHA, VIP, Nomad, ISIC)
  • Child concessionary fare available to children between the ages of 4-15 inclusive
  • The Pass is valid from the date of first departure for the period specified only.
  • Upgrade to sleeping berths/premium seats is allowed, subject to availability, and surcharges apply (upgrade fares available on request).
  • Pre booking is required for all trains at least 24 hours prior to travel.
  • Fuel Surcharges apply on all Great Southern Railway journeys on reservation.
  • The Pass is non-transferable and non-refundable unless unused when it is subject to normal cancellation charges.

Refunds and Ticket/Pass Changes

There is no refund on partially used, lost or stolen Passes. We strongly recommend that your travel insurance protects you against loss or theft of your rail pass

If the Pass is returned for cancellation or alteration before the first date of travel listed on the Pass, then we have a standard 15% cancellation/alteration fee in addition to an administrative charge per ticket, in all cases. Cancellations and alterations can only be made when we receive the pass/ticket prior to the first date of travel.

Duplicate or replacement passes/tickets cannot be issued under any conditions.
